Sensis, FAA and NATCA Offer ASDE-X Demonstrations at Airventure 2002DEWITT, NY – July 18, 2002 – Sensis Corporation and the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) will be installing and supporting demonstrations of the
Airport Surface Detection Equipment Model-X (ASDE-X) during this year’s
Airventure in Oshkosh, WI.. The FAA’s ASDE-X program is a traffic control system
for the airport surface designed to provide seamless coverage and aircraft
identification (tags) to air traffic controllers, increasing safety and reducing
runway incursions. The demonstrations will take place continuously throughout
Airventure and can be seen at the FAA and the NATCA stands.
The ASDE-X system uses a combination of surface movement radar and transponder
multilateration sensors to display aircraft position labeled with flight
call-signs on ATC tower displays. ASDE-X is scheduled for implementation at 33
US airports The Oshkosh demonstrations will show data from Milwaukee
International Airport (MKE), one of the key sites in the program. Sensis
Corporation of DeWitt, NY is the prime contractor for the program.
ASDE-X combines five enabling technologies: multilateration, Automatic
Dependent Surveillance –Broadcast (ADS-B), Surface Movement Radar (SMR), data
fusion, and tower displays. The quality of the fused ASDE-X data enables
positive correlation of flight plan information with aircraft position on
controller displays, seamless surveillance coverage of the airport from arrival
through departure, elimination of blind spots and coverage gaps, and
surveillance data with an accuracy and update rate suitable for improving
airport safety in all weather conditions. Visitors to this year’s
Airventure are encouraged to stop by the FAA stand for more information on
ASDE-X and other ATC related programs.
