Sensis Enhances Functionality of Aerobahn for Increased Support of Airside
Operations Decisions

Toolbox Enables Optimized Performance, Better Event Forecasting

DEWITT, NY - February 11, 2004 - Sensis Corporation today announced a new release of Aerobahn®, a powerful toolbox for airport and airline users responsible for airside operations. Aerobahn enables users to view, monitor, and quantifiably measure operations in real-time as well as playback events for post-event analysis. In response to user feedback, this new release provides additional visibility into critical airside operations and further streamlines information display and analysis. Concurrent with this announcement, Sensis Corporation announced that it is partnering with NavControl to provide Aerobahn to Charles de Gaulle Airport. In February, Aéroports de Paris will begin a 90 day trial at the airport to measure operations, with a focus on occupancy times in key locations.

"In today’s challenging environment, airlines and airports need visibility into their operations for greater collaboration and better, more informed decision making," said Marc Viggiano, president of Sensis’ Air Traffic Systems Division. "Aerobahn can supply this visibility, enabling them to optimize performance and better forecast and mitigate the impact of irregular operations."

Aerobahn interfaces to multiple aviation data sources, collects surveillance and flight plan data and fuses the data to present real-time information, as well as analyze post-event information, across three applications. In preparation for the new release, Sensis worked closely with its customers to determine how they were using the product, and the information that most highly impacted the management of their resources. As a result, Sensis redesigned Aerobahn’s user interface, added additional operations information and streamlined the technology, making operations management, and frequent queries, even easier to perform.

The Operations Snapshot application, a high-level overview of key performance measures and ground operations, features additional dynamic information:

  1. Active flight list identifying inbound flights, airport of origin and ETA as well as outbound flights, future destination, and ETD
  2. Arrival and departure information consolidated into one chart for direct comparisons of arrivals and departures for each hour and the ability to more clearly view banks of flights
  3. Information on user-defined regions, such as de-icing zones

The Traffic Monitor application, a visual representation of the airport overlaid with information for real-time monitoring and measuring of flight operations, now also features:

  1. Enhanced color coding for quicker visual identification of elements such as user defined regions and runways
  2. Additional flexibility to allow each user to customize how the airport is visually displayed and the data presented; users can also retain these preferences as their default view
  3. Further customization for data blocks associated with each aircraft and vehicle - for example, users now have the option to add origin and destination airports, ETA/ETD in addition to the previous options of flight and tail number, aircraft code and Mode A code

The Operations Analysis application features flexible, easy to use data mining tools to enable users to extract operational information such as taxi times, arrival and departure times, runway and region occupancy times. Users can also use this information to investigate the routing and operational history of individual flights by replaying the event in the Traffic Monitor. The new version adds to this functionality by featuring:

  1. The ability to launch the playback feature of the Traffic Monitor directly from the Operations Analysis
  2. The ability to save user-defined queries for quick future review

Aerobahn’s web-based structure is extremely scalable, easily accommodating many distinct data sources and large numbers of users. The product also features a variety of information security features for strict control of data access and information assurance.
