Sensis ASDE-X System Improving Safety at One of the World’s Busiest Airports

Surface Surveillance System Provides Seamless Surveillance and Aircraft Identification at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

EAST SYRACUSE, NY – July 10, 2006 – Sensis Corporation today announced that its Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X system (ASDE-X) for the Federal Aviation Administration is operational at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Hartsfield is one of the world’s busiest airports, handling more than 85,900,000 passengers in 2005. With ASDE-X, air traffic controllers in the recently commissioned new ATC tower at Atlanta receive seamless surface surveillance and aircraft identification, increasing airport safety and efficiency.

Runway incursion risk has been on the National Transportation Safety Board’s Most Wanted list since the list’s inception in 1990. The FAA implemented the ASDE-X program to help address this risk. Sensis ASDE-X uses multiple surveillance sources that allow for coverage in the most complex airport environment; a sophisticated fusion processor to provide a comprehensive surveillance picture of the airport surface; an integrated display that features an interface developed in full consultation with air traffic controllers; and the world’s most advanced runway incursion safety alerting system, Safety Logic.

“Traffic levels have returned to historic highs, and the FAA predicts that commercial traffic is on track to exceed one billion passengers by 2015,” said Marc Viggiano, president of Sensis Air Traffic Systems. “With these increases, programs that provide significant safety, efficiency and capacity benefits like ASDE-X will become increasingly critical components to a safe National Airspace System.”

In addition to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the system is now deployed at ten airports and is operational and commissioned at seven. The FAA is in the process of deploying the ASDE-X system to a total of 35 of the nation’s airports.
