Sensis MDS Supporting Increased Throughput at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport

Multilateration Provides Improved Situational Awareness on the Airport Surface

DEWITT, NY – May 22, 2006 - Sensis Corporation announced that its Sensis Multistatic Dependent Surveillance (MDS) multilateration system is operational as part of the Advanced – Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS) at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport. Sensis MDS improves air traffic controllers’ situational awareness by providing a picture of the airport’s runways, taxiways and gate areas with an accuracy of 4.5 meters.

Schiphol handled 44.2 million passengers in 2005, an increase of five percent over 2004. Sensis MDS will ensure that the airport can safely accommodate this increase. The transponder multilateration system uses low-cost, non-rotating sensors to detect and track the movement of aircraft or vehicles based on their transponder signals. With precision comparable to global positioning systems, a higher update rate than traditional airport surveillance radar, and consistent surveillance performance regardless of weather conditions, Sensis MDS provides significant safety, efficiency and capacity benefits. The system also provides Mode S Extended Squitter ADS-B tracking capability.

“Multilateration is the cornerstone of a robust airport surveillance system and Sensis MDS provides LVNL a proven multilateration solution,” said Marc Viggiano, president of Sensis Air Traffic Systems. Sensis MDS is the most field-proven in the industry – no other multilateration system has undergone the rigorous commissioning process for multiple international air navigation service providers, including the FAA, NATS, and ADP.”

In addition to Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport, Sensis MDS is operational or being installed at nine European and Asian airports. Further, Sensis MDS is being deployed to 35 U.S. airports as part of the FAA’s Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X) program.
